I have been dancing since I was four, I started with ballet and soon expanded my horizons to ballet, jazz, lyrical, hiphop, modern, and pointe. I grew attached to dance it's what got me through the day. Fast forward a few years to my ten year old self getting the devastating news that I had leukemia and would need at least two and half years of treatment. My first question for the doctors was "what about dance?". My whole life prior to that had revolved around dance, I wasn't going to let a little cancer stop me from doing what I love. So I showed up to dance and danced my worried away almost every week. My dance family pushed me through the battle never letting me quit. Dance gave me a reason to want to stay strong and get better. Now fifteen years old and two and a half years into remission I can honestly dance kept me fighting and it gave me a safe haven away from the scary world of cancer.
