Untapped Dancer Story: How I Cope

I love being able to express myself through something and show people how I’m feeling in a beautiful way.

I started dancing at the age of 10 years old. A lot later than most but better late than never. I had been taking ballet for the first year and then soon found a love for lyrical. I found this as a way to express myself, but at such a young age I didn't have much to say to anyone. As I got older, I started to remember things from a younger age. When I was a very small girl I was sexually assaulted, and this has just started to take a hold of me. I began doing things to my body that nobody should because I didn't know how to talk about it. I began seeing counseling and my counselor asked me if I had any way to get my mind off of things and I realized I had dance. Whenever I dance now I let out my emotions and it's how I cope with life and the things in it. I love being able to express myself through something and show people how I'm feeling in a beautiful way.
